The Chance to Give Back

Toronto Personal Injury Lawyer Albert Conforzi - Sometimes opportunities come across our lives that allow us to give back to our community outside of our areas of expertise. I have been fortunate to be involved in one such chance.

For the last number of years I have been involved in the Pro-Am Golf Committee for the Trillium Health Care Centre Foundation. We organize an annual golf tournament in support of the Hazel McCallion Centre for Heart Health at the Trillium Health Centre.

Every year, over 7,000 youth, adults and seniors receive specialized life-saving care at the Centre. Trillium's commitment to cardiovascular care excellence has made it the leading cardiac care centre in the region. While the average treatment time in North America for an ST-elevation Myocardial Infarction is 90 minutes, Trillium's average service time for such an event is less than 70 minutes - among the best in North America. When you consider that this is the time from the patient's door to the opening of the blocked artery on the operating table, it is a great achievement.

Given that my own father died as a result of a heart attack almost 27 years ago, I am proud that the 20th annual pro-am golf tournament raised over $200,000 this year for the unit. I'm glad that I could help in the running of this event, along with a stalwart committee of volunteers and Foundation representatives. A special thank you as well to my colleagues at Pace Law Firm, for the financial and moral support that they have provided to me in this most worthy of causes.

If anyone reading this would like to receive details about next year's event, please contact me.

I blogged back in August about head injuries and some potential litigation in the U.S. arising from head injuries in the NFL. I am very pleased to report back that our office is continuing to lead the way with awareness information regarding head injuries.

Pace Law Firm, in conjunction with the group Stop Concussions, hosted an information event at the Harry Lumley Arena in Owen Sound on Thursday September 19, 2012. Speakers included hockey stars Keith Primeau, Zenon Konopka, Wayne Primeau, Paul Rosen, Tim Fleiszer, Etienne Boulay, Dave McLlwain, Wayne Cowley, as well as other celebrities like Bruce Coxen from Dragon’s Den. Lots of excitement and support was generated for this cause, as well as the screening of Kerry Goulet's movie which documents concussions and their devastating effects on families.

Discussions are underway on bring the event to a GTA area venue, and I will let readers know when it comes together.

I am very proud of the commitment my firm makes to reaching out, educating others, and contributing to our community.
